Edinburgh Community Energy Co-operative Ltd

Mark Lazarowicz MP has been progressing a community energy initiative in North Edinburgh since 2006 http://www.edinburghcommunityenergy.btik.com

A public meeting was held on Saturday 17th November 2007 at South Leith Parish Church Halls, Henderson Street, Leith.
Members of the community applied to join a co-operative at that meeting. Edinburgh Community Energy Co-operative Ltd was subsequently set up with support from Co-operative Development Scotland. Board Members were appointed at the next community meeting on 15th March 2008.

Waterfront Edinburgh Ltd were already progressing an energy study in their development area in Granton. The Co-operative successfully applied for an EST SCHRI grant to fund the expansion of that study to investigate options for community energy in Granton and Royston Wardieburn. Output from this study is expected in June/July 2008. The Co-operative will then decide on next steps and pursue funding to progress them.
